First NHS Baseball Alumni Association Golf Tournament a success
It came down to a match of cards and a third tie-breaking hole to determine the winning team at the first Newburyport High School Baseball Alumni Association Golf Tournament on Sunday, Aug . 12 at Apple Hill Golf Club in E. Kingston, NH.
The father-and-son tandem of Marc and Marc Ouellet teamed with brothers Chris and Pat Sheehan to take the top prize with an 11-under-par round of 59. The winners shared $280 in clubhouse credit donated by Apple Hill GC pro Steve Lundquist.
The foursome of Matt Wile, Pat Wile, Tyler David and Chris McKinnon also finished at minus-11, settling for second place, while the group of former NHS Coach Bill Pettingell, former Georgetown High Coach Mark Rowe, Jeff MacBurnie and Shawn MacBurnie placed third at minus-9. Conor Clancy won both the Longest Drive contest on the par-4, 422-yard sixth hole and the Closest to the Pin prize on the par-3, 145-yard second hole.
In all, 52 golfers also took part in a putting contest, silent auction and extensive prize raffle and were treated to a post-tournament cookout. The event raised more than $5,000 that will be used to fund the NHSBAA's annual scholarship presented to a graduating baseball player and for upgrades at the newly-named Pettingell Park, dedicated on Aug. 4.
