Second NHSBAA Golf Tournament raises
$6,000 for scholarship, program
The team of former NHS head coach Bill Pettingell, former Georgetown High head coach Mark Rowe, and Doug, Jeff and Shawn MacBurnie combined for a 7-under par 63 to win the second annual Newburyport High School Baseball Alumni Association Golf Tournament Monday, Aug. 19 at Ould Newbury Golf Club in Byfield.
Second place went to the team of father and son Marc and Marc Ouellet, Steve Therrien and Randall Seabrook, one shot back at 64. Joe Jancewicz, Bob Jancewicz, Mindy March and Ron March captured third place with a 65 on a match of cards after Bob Jancewicz rolled in a dramatic 20-foot birdie putt on the group’s final hole, the par-5 second.
Each member of the top three teams picked from an array of clubs provided by Five Star Golf. Longest Drive winners Mindy March and Marc Ouellet and Closest to the Pin winners Leah Petty and Jeff MacBurnie also had their choice of clubs.
Participants took part in a $5,000 Hole-In-One Challenge, silent auction and extensive prize raffle and enjoyed a post-tournament luncheon at Ould Newbury’s Saltmarsh Grille. This year’s tournament raised approximately $6,000 to be used to fund the NHSBAA’s annual scholarship and ongoing upgrades at William B. Pettingell Park.
